Welcome to the Madill Design Studio Alternative Preference Survey!

With the expansion of state highway 70 on the horizon, Madill city planners began to look for means to mitigate the rapid growth in population and commercialization that would follow. In the hope of maintaining and building the quality of life for their citizens, the City of Madill approached the University of Oklahoma departments of Landscape Architecture and Regional and City Planning to discuss design and implementation of alternatives in several key areas. These areas of concern - City Lake, Courthouse Square, the Pedestrian Pathway System, and the Highway 70 Corridor-were presented to a studio of graduate RCPL and LA students as a design exercise.

The first stage of the process was completed in February, and presented to the city council and members of the public. It consisted of exhaustive review of ecological and economic factors existing in Madill. The second stage, presented both before the city council and on this web page, was the development of several alternatives for each area of concern.

When viewing these alternatives, we ask that you consider each alternative as a possibility that might happen within the next 20 years. Certainly, some of these choices are so grand that they could not possibly happen in less than 20 years.... We would like to know what you like in each alternative, what you don't like, and what is important to you that we may not have addressed. This is not a pageant where you need to pick the best or worst - just let each of us know what we have done, good or bad.
